Hori Leather Cartridge Holder NDSL

Posted by Dyna-Storm in My Views & Thoughts on August 25th, 2007

I actually bought this product about a month ago but totally forgot to do a review on it. At that time I was too anxious to try out the V-box for the Nintendo Wii, thus it was “placed” aside until recently. To put it simply, this leather cartridge holder is to, well to hold your NDS game cartridges. The material is made of leather which in my opinion is cool. Leather don’t get dirty easily and its easy to clean too. Other than that, I can feel that the overall product is pretty tough, thus the protection of your cartridges are well assured.

Hori Leather Game Holder

On the inside, you will see 2 slots to put in stylus, 6 slots for NDS games and 2 slots (behind) for your GBA cartridges. This is a pretty generous amount as most people would play between 4 to 6 games during a LAN party meeting.

Inside Hori Cartridge Holder

The size of the cartridge holder is roughly around the same as the NDSL, just slightly longer but it’s very light. Combine that with its toughness and you have a cartridge carrier like no other. Sure the R4 can store a lot more games compared to an amount of 6, but hey whats better than showing off your arsenal of original games during a meetup? :D

I can say this product is pretty hot as PlayAsia is always out of stock but the brown color model is still up for purchase. Grab it now!

I give this product a rating of 4.5 out of 5. Kudos to Hori for another magnificent product.

I Have Been A Fool ..

Posted by Dyna-Storm in Random Stuff on August 23rd, 2007

.. A fool playing with the wiimote that is. Last week I bought Warioware Smooth Moves for the Nintendo Wii and it was a blast. Had lots of fun playing it with my girlfriend and it really helped to lower down my stress. I always knew that the wiimote is sensitive but didn’t expect it to be that sensitive enough to perform some of the “moves” in Warioware. Kudos to Nintendo for bringing the next evolution of game controllers since the Playstation days.

It seems like nowadays the days in a week passes by faster. Today is already Thursday and the weekend is going to be here soon. I have always looked forward to weekends but not this one. I have one assignment due on Sunday and today will determine my fate. It’s either hell .. or heaven.

On the bright side, my friend Neko will be flying in tomorrow for an entire week. It would be nice if I don’t have any of those assignment due dates. Was hoping to kick back and whack all the good stuff on the Wii.

I will do a proper review on Warioware as well as some Hori products which I bought long time ago but didn’t had the chance to review them. Hopefully I can get them up by this weekend or early next week.

Oh by the way, Gyakuten Saiban 3 / Phoenix Wright 3 : Trials and Tribulations is already out. If you haven’t made your purchase yet, just click the banner below. It has both English and Japanese text / voice so no worries if you don’t know japanese :D

3DO - Gone But Not Forgotten

Posted by Dyna-Storm in Into The Past on August 19th, 2007

Most gamers usually had their first 3D experience through the Playstation, Sega Saturn or Nintendo64 but for me, it was the 3DO developed by Panasonic, Sanyo and Goldstar. At that time 3DO cost a bombshell USD $699, due to its gaming and media playback capability. My uncle bought it at around 1994 and I was lucky enough have tried it out.

3DO Models FZ-1 FZ-10

If I recall correctly, I tried two different models of the 3DO. Both of them are from Panasonic, codenamed FZ-1 and FZ-10. I can’t really remember why my uncle bought the later model but perhaps it was due to the faulty cd-tray of the FZ-1 model. As a kid I wasn’t bothered with hardware failures and stuff. As long as I get to play the games, it’s all good.

3DO Controllers

All my life as a gamer, I have never seen a console system that only has one controller port. In order for a second player to join in, he or she has to connect their controller into Player 1’s controller. From what I see, Player 1 usually has the upper-hand when it comes to versus games. Not happy with Player 2 trashing you? Just plug out the controller! In terms of appearance, the original controller looked very similar to Sega’s, with the exception of L R trigger buttons.

Road Rash 3DO

The first game I ever played on the 3DO was Road Rash. Being a fan of that game when it was on the Sega 16 bit, it was totally mind blowing to play it again with a graphical up-lift. You get the same police chase, you get to whack other bikers and you get the similar ‘busted’ feeling when the cops get the better of you. I wonder why EA never came out with new Road Rash franchise. Gameplay too old school for today?

SS2FX and Gex

Other than Road Rash, a lot of good games did came out for the 3DO; Super Street Fighter 2 X, Mad Dog McCree, Total Eclipse, Dragon’s Lair, The Need For Speed, Return Fire and Gex to name a few. There are a couple more other games that I have played but I couldn’t remember. My favourite games are definitely SSF2X, Return Fire, Road Rash and Gex. I can just literally play them everyday and wouldn’t get bored of them.

Return Fire & Total Eclipse

It’s really a shame that the console didn’t last long. Lack of 3rd party support along with crazy pricing was the main reason for it’s demise. I doubt I can still find 3DO along with the old games after a decade but if I do, I’m definitely going to buy and keep it. To me, it’s well worth the collection.
